Has been founder-director of the Product-Life Institute (Switzerland), the oldest established consultancy in Europe devoted to developing sustainable strategies and policies, since 1983. From 1986 to 2014, he was also director of risk management research of the Geneva Association. In 1971, he graduated from ETH Zurich with an MA in architecture; has been Visiting Professor, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, University of Surrey, since 2005; a full member of the Club of Rome since 2013. He was awarded degrees of Doctor honoris causa by the University of Surrey (2013) and l’Université de Montréal (2016). In 1982, with ‘The Product-Life Factor’, he won a Mitchell Prize in Houston, TX; In 1978, together with Peter Perutz, he won a first prize in the competition of the German Future's Society, Berlin, with a paper on unemployment, occupation and profession.His ‘corner’ books are ‘Jobs for Tomorrow, the Potential for substituting manpower for energy’ (1981) and ‘The Performance Economy’ (2010).

Spotlight on current activity:

Promoting the understanding of the structure of an economy in loops and its drivers and obstacles (circular industrial economy); spreading the knowledge about the competitiveness of a performance economy selling goods and molecules as a service; and identifying the levers to speed up the shift from a linear industrial economy managing flows to an economy managing stocks; through workshops, lectures and policy groups; member of the Coordination Group of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform of EESC and the European Commission.

Adriano Magliocco (Venezia, 1966), architect, PhD (1998) in technology of Architecture and Environment at Milan Polytechnic, Italy. Full Professor in Technology of Architecture at the Department Architecture and Design where he is Deputy Head, University of Genoa, Italy. He has been Coordinator of Master program in Architecture from November 2013 to November 2016 and Coordinator of PhD Program in Architecture years 2012-2015. Reference research field is environmental sustainability at different scales; results have been reported in several publications, conferences, seminars and training courses. Main topics: near zero energy buildings, strategic environmental assessment, building environmental assessment, eco-design, strategic environmental assessment in urban areas.

Andreas Metzner-Szigeth is Full Professor (since March 2016) in Sociology of Culture and Communication at the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bozen–Bolzano, Italy. He was Full Professor of Sustainability Science at Bochum University of Applied Sciences (May 2012-March 2016) in Bochum, Germany, and Holder of the Visiting Chair for Studies in Science, Technology and Society (STS) at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in Donostia–San Sebastian, Spain (October 2004-September 2007). Moreover, he has collected additional international experiences in a series of positions as Visiting Professor and Resident Research Fellow. His broad record of working experience comprises several positions in different academic institutions, European research networks and international projects focusing on the interplay of media and culture, technology assessment and risk communication. He acquired additional proficiency in management and governance related consulting and evaluation procedures centering on various fields of Sustainable Development as an entrepreneur and executive manager (October 2008-March 2016, Executive Manager and Consultant, Episteme Consulting (EC), Muenster, Germany; April 2000-April 2005, Entrepreneur and Consultant, Institute for Management and Sustainability Issues (IMSI), Muenster, Germany). Andreas started his academic career as Assistant Professor at the Brandenburg University of Technology, in Cottbus, Germany (June 1994-April 1999).

Anna Realini holds a M.Sc. in Energy Engineering at Politecnico di Milano (2012). After working for four years in an Energy Company, she joined RSE as a researcher in Energy Efficiency group. Her current research interests focus on Energy Efficiency, especially in industrial and residential sectors. She is involved on Italian and EU-funded projects on these topics, among which ASSIST 2gether project, whose aim is to tackle energy poverty by increasing consumption awareness and triggering behaviour change in vulnerable consumers.

Arianna Bionda is a PhD candidate of the XXXII Cycle at Politecnico di Milano, Department of Design. Architect, sailor and yacht designer, since 2014 she is involved in teaching and research activities with the Master program in Yacht Design at Politecnico di Milano and SMaRT Lab (Sustainable Marine Research and Technology laboratory), Lecco Innovation Hub interdepartmental laboratory. Her doctoral research is focus on innovative technologies and materials role in a yacht design project and their current dynamics and practices of interaction. She is also involved in national and international research activity mainly focused on Yacht Desgin for sustainability: design for sustainable material and technology, design for circoular economy, design for disassembly and for recycling, design for sustainable social innovation and sustainable business model, and design4all.

This is Azadeh Razzagh Shoar, master student of OCAD University (Toronto) in Design for Health program and a BA holder in Industrial Design from The Art University (Tehran). Berill is passionate about food, the environment and healthy living, and her mission is to help create a sustainable and healthy food system which operates safely and delightfully in the natural world without compromising the health and well-being of humans, other species, and our planet. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the Centre for Urban Sustainability and Resilience at the University College London. Her research focuses on developing a novel Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) based tool for catering to support the design of healthy and sustainable food systems. The tool will enable the catering sector to make informed decisions about menu design and be aware of how different types of meals impact both the environment and our health

Carolina Giraldo Nohra, PhD candidate in Management Production and Design at the Politecnico di Torino (Department of Architecture and Design)(2017-2020). Her research mainly focuses on Systemic Design applied to generate Circular Economy and Urban Transitions. Cenk Basbolat is a multidisciplinary designer and researcher with core focus on user experience, system design, visualisation and strategy. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Bilkent University in Turkey having completed one year of his studies in the School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan in USA. He received his Master of Science degree in Product Service System Design at Politecnico di Milano with an half year study abroad experience at RMIT university at Melbourne.

Cenk previously worked as Designer and Researcher at FourByNorth Studio, an American Design Studio, based in Istanbul and currently working as a Designer Researcher and Project Manager at DIS Lab - Design and system Innovation for Sustainability in the Design Department of Politecnico di Milano where he is engaged in LeNSin (the International Learning Network of networks on Sustainability) Project which is an EU-supported (ERASMUS+) project involving 36 universities from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Central America, aiming at the promotion of a new generation of designers (and design educators) capable to effectively contribute to the transition towards a sustainable society for all.
